Fallen Comrades

Sometime last night, one of the other blogs I contributed to was banished to the depths of blogger hell. Pervert the Church, a blog I've been with for years now, has succumbed to Google's almighty hand and is now defunct. RIP. We will leave this tribute to our fallen comrades with a fine piece of pure Norwegian metal.

Mind Eraser - Glacial Reign (2006)

Genre: Hardcore/Grind
Country: United States

GET. FUCKING. PISSED. OFF.

...no but seriously this album makes me want to destroy things, you should join me.

Occult Crypt - Exterminate (2010)

Genre: National Socialist Black Metal
Country: Germany

Based off BallsToTheWall's review here, and from the fact that it's been a while since I've heard an NSBM album that I liked a lot, I checked out this unknown German band's only LP Exterminate. It riffs, it kriegs, it hitlers (that was stupid, I know) so check it out.

Arbeit Macht Frei

PS- They cover Autopsy on this record, which is awesome.

Deathspell Omega - Drought (2012)

Genre: Black Metal
Country: France

Deathspell Omega are back with another heavy-hitter, this time in the form of an EP. Paracletus showed how DsO are currently at the top of their game and near the top of their genre, and Drought is here to re-affirm that. This album is both staggeringly slow and blazingly fast, so get ready for Deathspell to bring you to the desert.

Necrovation - Breed Deadness Blood (2008)

Genre: Death Metal
Country: Sweden

In preparation of their new self titled LP coming out in late June on Agonia Records, here is Necrovation's first full length. One listen to this will teach you that this is not your typical Swedish Dismember, Entombed or Grave imitation. This thing is thick, razor sharp, down tuned and just plain old junkyard dog mean. The riffs will crush your skull into a pulp, the drumming will crush that pulp into a soup, and the production and vocals run that soup into the sewers. It should be very interesting to see what these guys churn out on their anticipated next offering.

Ash Pool - Cremation is Irreversible (2012)

Genre: Raw Black Metal
Country: United States

Ash Pool, when its mastermind Dominick Fernow is on point, are one of my favorite black metal acts. Releases like Genital Tomb and World Turns on its Hinge are raw, riff-laden wonders. However, the band has put out several subpar to bad releases as of late, so it is nice to hear an attempt to go back on track with the abrasively - almost obscenely - raw Cremation is Irreversible. It's heavy, intense, and indicative of Ash Pool of old.

Aldebaran - Embracing the Lightless Depths (2012)

Genre: Sludge/Doom Metal
Country: United States

Take a look at that album art. Read the album title. Take a listen to Dwellers in Twilight before unleashing this one. Check out the label that released this. Look at the monolithic scale of the tracks. I mean, if this doesn't crush with absurd amounts of mass - I'm talking black-hole density - I just have no hope for anything anymore.
