Morpheus Descends - Chronicles Of The Shadowed Ones (1994)
Genre: Death Metal
Country: United States
An essential American death metal band, Morpheus Descends are overshadowed on the larger scale of the New York death metal scene by contemporaries such as Immolation and Suffocation. Their debut Ritual Of Infinity is also required listening.

Spectral Lore - II (2007)
Genre: Folk/Ambient Black Metal
Country: Greece
Spectral Lore's debut album I was a haven for those who loved a heavy helping of ambient coupled with a black metal edge, something which II builds upon wonderfully. It's not the most welcoming listen, slamming you with a 25-minute leviathan after the brief opener fades away, but good things come to those who wait, as they say.

Disgrace - Inside The Labyrinth Of Depression (1990)
Genre: Death Metal
Country: Finland
A fine Finnish death metal demo from a band that had massive potential, but unfortunately they departed from their death metal roots that are exemplified here. The deep vocals are reminiscent of fellow Finnish band Demilich, although not quite as low. An excellent listen.

Ascended - Temple Of Dark Offerings (2009)
Genre: Doom/Death Metal
Country: Finland
The follow-up EP to Ascended's excellent demo The Art Of Necromancy. Lots of deep growls and muddy riffing to be had, so get this shit ASAP.

Der Stürmer - A Banner Greater Than Death (2006)
Genre: Black Metal
Country: Greece
Here we have what is surely the best album from the Greek NSBM band Der Stürmer, an album which features somewhat unique, barking vocals and, among other things, odd samples from such esteemed Hollywood motion pictures as Fight Club, Gladiator, and The Punisher. However effective/ineffective these additions may be, the album is proficient in its riffing and continued spewing of fringe-right propaganda.
Still waiting to find some Communist black metal, actually, and if you know of any leave a comment. Have to represent both sides of the spectrum here, people.
